The poppy fields near Newquay

One of the highlights of the late spring/early summer is a walk at Crantock just south of Newquay.
The arable fields are managed by the National Trust and are now looking their best with whole fields scarlet with poppies and other rare meadow plants. Later come corn marigolds and more brightly coloured flowers which look simply stunning against the backdrop of the coast.
There is a car park at West Pentire and you can follow the coastal footpath to Porth Joke (or Polly Joke as it is known locally) and back through the fields. If you feel the peckish the Bowgie Inn is nearby and where you can also sit outside and enjoy the view over Crantock beach.
