Padstow during lockdown

Driving into Padstow this week past the empty car parks and closed businesses, it felt like a Sunday in late January except the weather was warm and the trees and flowers in full bloom   ….  and it has been like this for 6 weeks!

There is some gentle activity – a few fishermen are able to land their catches, the sand tractor trundles over the bar and PHC are doing maintenance such as relocating navigational buoys in new channels created after the winter storms.  The Chough is having a facelift and OpenReach are operating near Tesco.

It has been good to see a couple of food outlets reinventing themselves as takeaways and food suppliers. Treviskers has been resourceful and transformed their garden centre and restaurant into a safe shopping area. The Spar shop has been open throughout, Embers Pizza is opening as a takeaway on Friday and others have moved to sell online or do deliveries.

Strange times indeed and the quietest spring in Cornwall anyone has ever seen!
