Blue Flag Beaches

17 May

The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised guarantee of bathing water although that is only part of the criteria and it is worth stressing that a Blue Flag beach is not necessarily any better than other beaches. In fact, quite the opposite is true of many of Britain’s smaller, picturesque coves. The Blue Flag award is ideally suited to resort beaches with plenty of facilities. It is for this reason that the other awards granted in the UK may be of equal or more use in choosing a suitable beach.

The 2021 Blue Flag list includes Trevone near Padstow and here is is full list of the eight in Cornwall:

Crooklets (Bude), Polzeath, Widemouth (Bude), Trevone (Padstow), Great Western (Newquay), Porthtowan (St Ives), Porthmeor (St Ives), Gyllynvase (Falmouth).

Dogs are banned from certain beaches between May 15 and Sept 30 between the hours of 10am and 6pm and these include Trevone and Polzeath.
